Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets are appointed annually by the Lord-Lieutenant, in conjunction with Highland Reserve Forces and Cadets Association, from one or more of the three Service Cadet organisations. Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets will have already demonstrated high levels of achievement and that they are excellent ambassadors of the services cadet movement. The role of Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet is to assist the Lord-Lieutenant as His Majesty the King's representative in Orkney.
Those Who Have Served Before
Esme served as Lord-Lietenant's Cadet during the year 2023-24. In service, she attanied the rank of Bombardier and supported the Lord-Lieutenant at several important events, including the funeral of one of Orkney's former Lord-Lieutenants, George Marwick, CVO.
Cadet Bombardier Freya Laing served as Lord-Lietenant's cadet during the period 2022-2023. During her term she supported the Lord-Lieutenant throught the period of change following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elixzabeth II as well as performing other duties associated with the role.
After being in the army cadet force for 5 years, Skye was appointed to the role of Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for a second year in 2020 and is rightly proud of this achievement. Over the years Skye has gained skills and values which have helped her progress to the highest level of training in the ACF. She has always worked to maintain the highest standard throughout her Cadet Career and aims to be a role model for the younger cadets.
As a Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet, Morven assisted Lord-Lieutenant Bill Spence for 2 years and continued in the role to support the new Lord-Lieutenant Elaine Grieve for the period of 2020-2021. During her time as a Lord-Lieutenant's Cadet Morven assisted at Award Ceremonies, Royal Visits and Acts of Remembrance.
Cadet Bombardier Dougall as a member of the National Pipes and Drums played as a snare drummer. He attended as many national events as he could and his ultimate ambition was to become Drum Major for the National Pipes and Drums.
